A dental sealant is a thin protective coating painted onto the chewing surface of a back tooth. It seals off the deep grooves where food and bacteria get trapped, so decay can't take hold. It takes a few minutes per tooth, with no drilling and no injection. Sealants work best on children's new adult molars, though adults with deep grooves benefit too.
